No baby or child sleeps for 12 hours straight; even as adults we don’t do this. We naturally transition from one sleep cycle to the next throughout the night and for little ones, this is every 45-90 minutes.
Therefore, it is only natural that when a little one comes into a light sleep cycle, they may stir/wake. If a child has self settling skills, they will able to put themselves back to sleep naturally. However, if they cannot put themselves back to sleep as they rely upon a sleep crutch to help them (feeding, parental presence, rocking for example), then
they have not learnt the skill of self soothing and the reliance upon their sleep crutch becomes permanent.
Sleep training (ages 16 weeks +) teaches children how to self soothe and be content with putting themselves back to sleep independently.
At Ready Steady Sleep, only gradual and responsive sleep training methods are used, so sleep training is always a positive and confidence building experience for both parents and child.
Getting sufficient sleep is vital for wellbeing.
Sleep is vital for survival and our ability to function day to day.
it also has a huge impact on our day to day emotional wellbeing, mood and our ability to cope with day to day life.
During our sleep we:
-Restore and repair
- Increase and develop our immune systems
- Growth hormone released for little ones
- Consolidate memories and learning
-Regulate emotions
Sleep training improves emotional and mental wellbeing.
Yes, it is possible!
When was the last time you/ your partner enjoyed an evening at home, in front of the television, feet up, watching a movie with takeaway that was warm and hadn't gone cold due to seeing to the children?
Probably too long!
Sleep training gives you back your evenings and your 'you' time. You can be sure your little one will be asleep and will not need your presence when transitioning into their next sleep cycle throughout the evening, EVERY EVENING.
Sleep training not only solves night time sleep issues for your little one but daytime naps too!
Look forward to a break during the day to work, clean or just enjoy a cuppa on the sofa!
Would you feel confident in going out in the daytime / evening currently, leaving your little one with a babysitter feeling confident they would settle and sleep?
Well, sleep training would give you the confidence to head out and switch off, knowing your little one is settled and sleeping well whilst being looked after by a babysitter
AND
You can be sure to get a good night's sleep once you are home.
Sleep training helps to align a little one's circadian rhythm (internal body clock) to prevent early wakings.
The whole family can look forward to waking up at a reasonable hour, feeling well rested, revitalised and ready for the day ahead!
